There were a lot of tough times. We didn’t have heat for one winter, but in the short term, there’s always going to be struggles. Like we may not have heat right now, but I promise you we’ll have heat next year. That’s why we have the heat blasting now, we’re just blasting it for all the times we didn’t have it.
I come from a single parent household. My mom passed away when I was 15 years old, she’s really my real idol. My mom woke up at 6 in the morning, made breakfast, made dinner - not like Cheerios. We’re Jamaican. It’s an hour to cook–full meals, and she still went to work all day, came home, did it again. To me, she’s my biggest inspiration. Her passing away when I was so young–I always have that motivation. I have to carry on my mom’s name, I have to carry on how hard she worked. She was very ambitious. She was incredible.
